Cibeles at Sunset

In addition to my hops down to Lima last month, I also enjoyed two great trips to Madrid.  They were so great because they were drama free flights, and the whole crew worked together like a well oiled machine (with me at the helm as Purser of course.... ha ha).  I didn't bring my iPhone with me on the layovers, but Jan, one of my co-workers, was kind enough to email me some pictures from our sunset visit to the Palacio de Cibeles.  I blogged about a visit to this location last year, From East to West, but for those who may not remember, the Palacio was originally the main post office in Madrid and in 2011 was renovated and is currently open to the public as a national monument.

We arrived at sunset and secured a 6:30 to 7:00pm visit to the 8th floor observation tower for the bargain price of 2 Euros.  It was a chilly night, but we were afforded some wonderful views o the city at dusk.  Here you can see all the way up to Puerta de Sol.

Of course, no visit is complete without a "libation" so we went to the outdoor terrace after our visit to enjoy a drink.  Because it was so cold, they had space heaters and flannel blankets for us to use to keep ourselves warm!

We ended the evening at Japanese restaurant, which seems kind of a weird option for Spain, but it was really cold and the restaurant was close to our hotel, and it was very good!
